ALYSSUM-ROSIE O'DAY

This variety of alyssum is a more moderately
growing specimen. It does not grow much over
12 cm in height and bears masses of pink
sweet-smelling flowers that bloom in mid spring
through to autumn if deadheaded regularly.
The foliage is a lovely silvery grey-green colour.
which is best seen after flowering has ceased.
It is ideal for rockeries, walls, pathways, garden
edges and in bare areas that are too poor to
sustain other plants. It has a moderate
requirement for moisture and can tolerate quite
dry conditions when established. It does not do
well in damp conditions. The clumps they form are
not easy to divide so plant them around 15 cm
apart so they form a contiguous mat.
Sow the in pots seed about 6 weeks before the
last spring frost. The seed should be scattered on
the surface and pressed lightly down then kept
moist. It needs 24C of heat and plenty of light to
encourage germination.
Seed takes about 7-10 days to germinate
