ALYSSUM-BENTAMII

This sweet Alyssum bears masses of fragrant
rounded clusters of tiny white flowers for
most of the year, but putting on its best
show in Spring. Alyssum atrract bees
and butterflies to your garden, which is
a benefit if you are wanting your vegies
pollinated by nature. This prostrate variety is
an attractive beneficial insect plant sought after by
grape growers and orchardists alike because
it is easy to grow and drought tolerant; it self sows
readily and it flowers over a long season
It spreads and act as a groundcover to reduce
weed growth and it is tolerant of shady conditions.
It is ideal used for covering bare patches in new
gardens too.
In temperate climate you can sow seeds
at almost any time but in cold districts, it
is best to sow during Spring and Autumn
months. Seedligns can be raised in pots,
or can be direct sown in the garden in
clumps and thinned if required. cover
seeds lightly with vermiculite, keep damp
until seedlings emerge. Note: Due to fine
seed, only a very light covering of sifted soil or
vermiculite is required.
